Imer Demirer Quartet

İmer Demirer was born in 1964 in Ankara. He started his music career at trumpet division of Istanbul State Conservatory in 1976. After having intense classic and modern music education for more than 10 years, he graduated from Mimar Sinan Istanbul State Conservatory in 1987.

His passion for jazz music dates back to 1984-85. He started working heavily with Emin Fındıkoğlu, Cem Aksel ve Can Ayer as soon as they met each other. His first experience was to make improvisations on some jazz recordings of “Çekirdek Art House”. In 1986, he joined Ali Peret’s “Istanbul Jazz Quartet” and participated a Jazz Festival at Sibiu, Romania with them. He also made several recordings with the group.

After graduation, he performed with various groups at festivals, jazz clubs and miscellaneous events. In 1989, he joined Süheyl Denizci’s Turkish Radio Television (TRT) Istanbul Radio  Jazz Orchestra. Besides performing in many recordings, concerts and festivals, he also played at European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Jazz Orchestra as representative of TRT on many occasions. In the mean time, he has been working with many great musicians in Turkey such as Hırant Lusigyan, Tuna Ötenel, Erol Pekcan, Selçuk Sun, Deniz Dündar, Oğuz Durukan, Mahmut Yalay, Ateş Tezer, Aydın Esen, Neşet Ruacan, Sarp Maden, Elvan Aracı, Muaffak Falay, Selim Selçuk, İlhan Erşahin, Can Kozlu, Nükhet Ruacan, Sibel Köse, Ayşe Gencer, Ricky Ford, Nilüfer Verdi, Murat Verdi, Butch Moris, Serkan Özyılmaz, Nükhet Aruca,Ari Honig,Essiet Essiet,Aaron Goldberg,Gary Fisher,John Jenkins,B.J.Crozby, Orrin Evans,Larry Williams,Stefhan Belmondo,lezlie Harrison,Larry Willis, Woddy Williams.Moreover, he had different experiences with Emin Fındıkoğlu’s “Detant” and “Euphony” and Ali Peret’s “Asit Tripin”.

Between 1998-2004, he gave “ensemble” and “trumpet” lessons at Bilgi University which he also believes gave him a lot of experience. Before that, in 1994, he attended some workshops in Poland; and later, attended festivals in Turkey with a jazz group consisting of some Turkish and Polish musicians.

After participating in many albums as a sideman, he released his first album “You, Me & Char” in 2009 on Pozitif Music label. In this album, he played mostly his own compositions as well as some covers. Cem Aksel in drums, Serkan Yılmaz in piano and keyboard, and Matt Hall in bass joined İmer in this album. He is currently working on Emin Fındıkoğlu and Ali Peret’s compositions on various projects.
